Blog Stage 2: Traveling Ban

On July 14th 2017, ABC News posted an article called, Judge rules grandparents exempt from travel ban; Sessions vows appeal. This article highlights U.S district Judge Derrick K. Watson's disapproval of the a "unduly restrictive" travel ban placed on the six Muslim-majority nations and how the Supreme Court, who although passed the travel ban, passed a very "watered down" version consisting of many exemptions; therefore partially upholding President Trump’s travel ban. The article talks about how the State of Hawaii challenged that the interpretation of the ban was too narrow and Judge Watson agreed, therefore creating a revision and expanding the list of people exempt from the ban to aunts, uncles, grandparents and more. The revision also exempts refugees and many more.

I would recommend this article because it highlights the immigration crisis our country is facing with this ban and explains how the U.S implemented the ban. People are concerned with President’s Trump’s ban and its impact on refugees and people with family in the banned nations, but many may not be aware of this recent ruling and the positive effect it can have on the situation. We should encourage people such as refugees and families to come to the U.S in hopes of finding a better life, not banning them simply because of their religion.
